emerald-fairy’s peanut pillow head rest

Revival of the Famous Peanut Travel Pillow

It was sometime during 1980 when my friend opened her Chemist Shop on the Northern Beaches in Sydney. She didn’t have much money for stock in her new Chemist Shop so I decided to make her some peanut pillows as my mother had given me one and it was a great item for traveling.

Well I was like a woman possessed making loads of them, the room was full of peanut pillows. Back in those days cut of bits of foam were used for filling not easy soft toy filling we have today.

My boyfriend came home from work and there I was in the bedroom surrounded by colourful peanut pillows and foam from here to kingdom come, the stuff was everywhere. Grahame made me stay in the bedroom while he vacuumed me and the entire room to get all the fluff and bits of foam. I guess you just had to be there, but it was so funny.

Feeling proud of myself I was off to Janice’s Chemist shop, a car full of my peanut pillows with dreams of making a few extra dollars. They looked great in the shop and this was back in the days when Chemist shops didn’t really carry gift lines like they do today, in those days the shops were pretty standard medical supplies and a bit of makeup.

Well I waited and waited, months later still no sales. I think it was a year later when Janice was upgrading her store and the peanut pillows came home. So every family and friend birthday and Christmas gift was of course a peanut pillow. Maybe I was just a bit before my time as in later years I did see some in Chemist shops although they were skinny under fed peanut pillows not plump and inviting like mine.

One of them was given to a friend who found a great use for it, she had a new baby and used to put the baby on the pillow for feeding, she said the shape was good and the baby fitted perfectly in the peanut shape. I have a blue dolphin one in the car, you never know when you need a head rest, they are great to sit behind your head while traveling

Last week DJ my nephew asked if I would make him a peanut pillow for his Scout bus trip and of course Poppy wanted one as well. So I downed tools and made the two requested pillows for Poppy and DJ. (Poppy is Gary’s dad who is raising the kids).

They loved them and of course the other two boys want one too.

The next day while working away doing my customer clothing orders all I could think about was peanut pillows. My creative energy was tuned in and I downed tools again and like a woman possessed off I went in a creative frenzy but in the back of mind was a reminder of the last attempt to become rich making peanut pillows!!

So I made a few and satisfied my creative lust and here they are. At least with modern technology we now have better filling so no one had to vacuum me.

I hope you enjoyed my story.

Understanding & Getting Along with People

It all starts with us

Understanding people is a journey all on it’s own and one feels like they need a degree in psychology at times to cope with every persons individual energy.

During my life and whenever I had conflict my mother used to say “and what did you do?”.¬†¬† This instantly annoyed me and I could feel the blood pressure rising with the attitude of it never being my fault but always the other person. It wasn’t until later in life after I explored my “spiritual journey”¬† I knew what she had said was right and it must have been a message to remember and seek the knowledge and understanding on later in life.

It was and is my fault if I ever have conflict and here is the knowledge on why I can see this now.

We are all just pure energy and vibrations. What we give out effects everything around us, when we are happy the world around us is happy when we are sad, angry, hurt the vibrations effect the very air we breathe.

Every living thing is connected to every living thing by fine filaments of light energy. We are aware of this energy of living things even though sometimes we are unaware of its nature.  Have you ever walked into a room and known you just wanted to get out of there, feeling instantly uncomfortable picking up on some unseen energy force that made you want to run away?.  Have you ever met a new person and instantly felt a dislike from the person or in other cases felt like you were drawn to them and wanted to be with them more?.

We all radiate out energy and hurting people hurt people. Some souls are going through their own hard lessons in life, so rather then be angry with a hurtful person what they really need is understanding and compassion. As soon as someone is nasty to you, it’s because they have something going on in life they are just not coping with.

There is no conflict if you just try kindness regardless of what’s going on in the world around you as kindness is a powerful tool in the mixed up energy of life on earth.¬† I try very had to make Kindness my Ideal and live by it, now that is easier said then done, but mixed with compassion – based on your own experiences – forgiveness – based on you would like to be forgiven your errors, so why not forgive others theirs and tolerance – based on acceptance that each soul is on their own like journey and understanding – based on everything you know in your life up to this point. Drawing on your experience to understand others.

Be Kind to all living things including yourself is one of my fairy mottos

Flowers in the Garden of God

People are like flowers in the garden of God
Some are just seedlings being nurtured in the soil
Some are like buds with their hearts tightly closed to the sun
Not yet giving of their beauty and fragrance

While others are like roses in full bloom
Souls open to the sun
Receiving the light and giving it to all who pass by

So we need constantly to remember:

That we are all Flowers in the Garden of God

All at different  levels of growth
Understand and see all people are on their journey, just like you and me they battle every day to achieve some state of awareness from their experiences

Life on a Tight Budget

Living on a tight budget

My Mum lived through the great depression way back in the 1930’s and even though today we appear to have an abundance of anything we need I still remember her initiative and creativity when I was young. Her influence was a good example for me as I¬† always remembered how to “make something out of nothing” or learn to improvise and use my talents.

I can remember my mother moving into a house and the pull down blinds were a dark brown color. She took them down and painted them cream and put fringe on the bottom they looked really great. She made all our clothing and even made my undies!!  bloomers cotton bloomers!!  gees I remember them well.

My mum would take one chicken and boil it up with onion, mixed herbs, salt, pepper and add some rice and we would have chicken soup. Then she would bake that chicken for a baked dinner.  That same chicken was used for salads and the shell was given to Dad who sat at the kitchen table and took all the meat off the bones and all that bones and all were put into a saucepan and made into a curry.  The end result was dad sitting there eating his curry and all that remained of that chicken was a pile of bones.

I did the same thing (before I gave up eating chickens)  but I took it a step further. I made vol au vonts out of the flesh.  I took some bread, cut the crusts off, buttered one side with home made garlic parsley butter, pushed the bread into patty cake pans and baked for about 10 mins. While that was baking I made a white mornay sauce.

Tablespoon of Butter – Heaped tablespoon plain flour – stir over heat until it’s combined (flour needs to be cooked a bit to get the flavour right) and add milk to the consistence you want not too thick and not too thin – Add salt, pepper, and a touch of nutmeg – Add chopped up chicken and put the mixture into the bread cases – top with grated cheese and back into the oven until golden brown.¬† Served with a salad this is a great meal.

I can remember different times in my life when I was so broke and during these times I was inspired by what I had learnt from my Mum I can remember doing the markets with my clothing and what I sold was food money, some weeks there wasn’t much food at all so one chicken or some mince went a long way.

In 2008 we bought our house and that’s when things got really tight for a time. Our house needed curtains, but I couldn’t afford new curtains so I bought some Calico. Calico Curtains are great, inexpensive and can be dyed or tie dyed to achieve a great effect. Garage Sales are great as one mans trash is definitely another mans treasure, I loved going to garage sales and once with $5.00 in my purse I asked Gary to stop at a garage sale “why do you want to stop there” he replied “you don’t have any money”¬† well I had $5.00 and found a perfect cane letter basket for $1.50.¬† It kept me amused for the rest of the day while I painted the basket pink. It’s still here and used everyday to store stuff in. Painting things always gives them a lift and painting something old can be a rewarding experience.¬†

I am sure there would be lots of stories people can tell about how they achieve life on a budget, so share your story if you like

Now the chickens are substituted by lentils  they are really cheap and you can make heaps of things out of lentils.

¬†One day when we were visiting Mum and Dad we had curried lentil pies for lunch, dad remarked how nice the pie was and I piped up and said “yeah dad and it’s not meat it’s lentil’s” imediately I felt a kick¬†under the table from mum with a vibe of don’t tell him that or he won’t eat it. Lucky he’s a bit deaf!!

Oh and I still have the deep burgundy dyed Calico Curtains!!
